In the land of the internet, content is king.  You could have a great lens with not much content on it, but without much content, it will be harder for you to get more visitors to it.

Why is content so important? Because it is an important factor in getting more traffic from search engines.  When a search is made on a search engine, the search engine will search the internet for pages that have the term that was searched for in it’s content.  Generally, sites that have the search term in it’s content more often will have a better chance of being ranked higher.

Lets say for example, that I have a lens about baseball cards.  I want to improve my chances of people finding my site when someone searches “baseball cards” on a search engine. How would I do this?  I would simply make sure the keywords “baseball cards” are on my Squidoo lens as much as possible.  The more the keywords “baseball cards” are on my Squidoo lens, the better chance I have of getting a higher ranking on searches for “baseball cards.” Higher rankings in search engines means more traffic to your Squidoo lens!

However, this doesn’t mean you should plaster your Squidoo lens with the keywords you want your lens to ranked under.  It is not recommended that you repeatedly write “baseball cards” over and over and over again 70 times. Sites can get penalized for this sort of thing, as search engines may see it as spam. Being penalized will hurt your rankings.

You also won’t want to repeat the keywords so often that it ruins your content.  You should always remember that you aren’t writing for a search engine, you are writing for people.  The content should read well.  You can only fit a keyword into an article so many times without starting to sound like a broken record.  This is why content is king.  The more content you have, the more chances you have to squeeze in the keywords.  The more of a keyword you have, the better chance you have of being ranked higher under it.  The higher your rankings, the more traffic you will get to your lens!
