In the past I created lenses and then just let Google find them at their own speed. I noticed that sometimes it would take several weeks before a lens would start to show up in Google’s search results.
How do you know when your lens has been indexed by Google? Do a search on Google for your lens by either searching for it’s URL or title. If your lens doesn’t show up when you search for the URL, it hasn’t been indexed yet.
Just recently I decided to start to add every new lens I make to at least two social bookmarking sites. So far I have only been using Stumble and Del.icio.us, but I have noticed that my lenses now seem to get indexed in Google in only a matter of days. Before it would sometimes take weeks for a lens to show up in Google.
With the fresh improvements at Squidoo, it is now easier than ever to bookmark lenses. There is now a convenient “bookmark” button on every lens. After you make a lens, bookmark it in a couple of social bookmarking sites, and I think you too will notice a difference in how long it takes for a lens to appear in Google.
Why does bookmarking a lens in sites like Del.icio.us help Google index a lens faster?
Social bookmarking sites like Del.icio.us are high traffic sites that are constantly being crawled by Google. By adding your lens to Del.icio.us and other social bookmarking sites, it can help Google find your lens faster.
