If you have a blog, have you ever imagined what your blog looks like through the eyes of a new visitor? I recently tried to imagine that I was a new visitor that had just stumbled onto my blog, and the first thing I thought was, “What is this site all about?

Often I find myself asking that same question when I visit someone else’s blog. A tagline may help to give me hint to what the site may be about, but for some sites, it just doesn’t seem to be enough. For my site, I felt my tagline wasn’t doing enough.

To fix this, I recently added a box at the top of the home page of WelcomeToMyIsland.com to give new visitors a brief explanation to what this site is all about. Sure, a new visitor could just click on the “about” page to see what this blog is about, but many visitors won’t have the patience to find where the “about” page is, or even to take the time to click on it and read it.

By adding a brief explanation on the home page of your blog you may help visitors get a quick and more complete idea of what your blog is all about.

To add it, all I had to do was add some html code to the Main Index Template in my Wordpress theme.
