140 Visits A Week To A Squidoo Lens I Didn’t Even Plan On Making

March 4th, 2008 · No Comments

I’ve been using this free keyword suggestion tool that shows how many times a keyword, and keywords like it, are being searched. This is extremely handy when making a Squidoo lens.I stumbled upon a good keyword for one of my lenses, and that lens is now currently receiving 140 visitors per week. It’s not even a fancy lens, and it isn’t full of tons of content. It’s simple and straightforward. I wasn’t even planning on making it, it practically happened by accident. I had made a lens to document my Squidoo progress and earnings. I called it, “WelcomeToMyIsland’s Squidoo Timeline.” Once that lens was indexed in the search engines, it started receiving visits from people looking for online timeline generators.

The traffic it was getting was totally unrelated. The people landing on my lens about my progress on Squidoo, where actually looking for timeline generators for school projects. They wanted to find a site online that they could use to help them make a timeline for a class, school, or something. They weren’t finding it though, instead they were landing on my lens that wasn’t any help to them at all!

When you make a lens on Squidoo you can see the stats for that lens. In the stats area you can see what search queries people typed in a search engine to get to that lens. Using this information I found and researched a couple of keywords with Wordtracker and Google, and found one that I thought would be a good one to use. I deleted my Squidoo timeline lens, and created a new lens that had information that the visitors to my other lens where actually searching for.

Currently that lens is getting around 140 visitors a week. I think it’s funny that right now my best performing lens is a lens that I didn’t even plan on making.

There are plenty of untapped keywords (like the one I accidentally stumbled upon) that you can find using a keyword research tool like the free Wordtracker keyword suggestion tool.

When making a Squidoo lens, I always do some keyword research to find a keyword that gets searched a good amount, but also has little competition. Finding one with those two conditions will give a Squidoo lens a better chance of getting more search engine traffic.
